You might be one of those people who likes to make sure everything is in perfect working order before you do anything with it. Your automotive vehicle should be no exception to this. But do you know what should be checked on a daily basis before you take your car out on the road? The team at Michies Automotive have put together a daily checklist to help you on your way.

  • Check that your vehicle’s exterior has no visible damage, that no fluid is leaking, and that all four tyres are properly inflated.

  • Is the inside clean of debris, such as wrappers, bottles, cans, etc.?

  • Is there any visible damage inside the car and are the seat belts working properly?

  • Make sure your insurance and vehicle registration information is easily accessible.

  • Particularly if you are planning a long trip – is an emergency kit and first aid kit available?

  • Start up the car and check to see if everything is operating correctly

  • Check that the headlights, taillights, brake lights, backup lights, and interior lights are all in good order

  • What about the windshield wipers and the horn?

  • Are your mirrors properly adjusted?

  • Test your parking brake and turn signals/indicators as well as the sun visor.

  • Ensure that you have at least a half tank of petrol and properly working heating/cooling systems

  • Step back outside and check under the hood of your vehicle. Your engine oil and windshield wiper fluid should be within range.

  • After your trip, check to see if any warning lights displayed.

Completing daily checks on the working condition of your car will limit the likelihood of breakdowns and ensure the safe working of your vehicle. They can also help highlight any issues requiring attention before they turn into a major repair issue. If your daily check signals any problems, come in and have the team at Michies Automotive take a look. The mechanics would also be happy to steer you in the right direction if you need help on how to complete these basic checks such as showing you how to check your engine oil.
